What Does UniSkills Offer?
'Flying Start' Orientation Programme
UniSkills run a two day on-campus 'Flying Start' Orientation
Programme which is separate from other orientation events. The
'Flying Start' Orientation Programme is not compulsory for
UniSkills students, but is a great chance to make new friends and
find out things about Uni before your first day.
'Flying Start' will run on Thursday 11th and Friday 12th
February in 2010.
 |
At 'Flying Start' you can:
- meet other new first year students
- visit faculties in which you will be
studying
- get to know the Uni campus
- receive study skills advice
- learn about life as a university student from
older students
- participate in fun social activities
|
The 'Flying Start' Orientation Programme does not clash with
other UWA orientation activities, so you can enjoy the benefits
of all the other orientation events.
Study Groups
Study groups are available to all first year students within
the UniSkills Programme. Early in first semester you will be told
how you can sign-up to join the groups, which are organised by
the UniSkills Project Officer. For more information go to the
Study Groups page.
Social Activities
UniSkills organises many fun
activities for UniSkills students, such as free lunches
and morning teas which offer an opportunity to meet up
and network with your peers. UniSkills students are told
about these events via the UniSkills mailing list as they
are planned throughout the year.

The UniSkills staff are available to help you with any
problems you may be experiencing in your transition to

academic or personal issue is provided. If you are feeling home
sick, finding it difficult financially, not enjoying where you
are living or experiencing any other problem which is adversely
affecting your ability to focus on your studies please feel free
to call in and see the UniSkills staff. All discussions are
confidential. We have an open door policy so appointments are not
required. However, if we are not in the office when you turn up
you can make an appointment at the front desk. [Make an appointment online]

UniSkills operates study groups which give you the
chance to learn collaboratively, with the opportunity to
ask questions in a non-threatening environment. They
operate for specific subject units – for example,
Engineering 102, Political Science 101 and Human Biology
100.
Each study group consists of 3-8 students, plus a
leader (an older student who has achieved good results in
the unit), who meet for an hour a week. The groups meet
on campus at a time which is suitable for all
participants.
