Cultural Diversity TrainingAs part of our commitment to the professional development of our valuable volunteers, the UniMentor and UniLink programs are working in partnership with the Equity and Diversity Office to offer current participants the opportunity to participate in valuable cultural diversity training at no cost. The workshop titled Courageous Conversations is aimed to give volunteers increased skills, knowledge and confidence when working with a diverse group and to allow students an opportunity to share their own experiences and stories. Courageous Conversations Workshops are interactive and provide various tools to stimulate and inform the debate, helping participants think through the myriad ways race affects our life and professional practice. The workshops explore concepts of culture and race privilege, examine their influence and utilise the insights gained to develop a more meaningful and targeted response around race and culture in a University context. There are two workshops currently planned for 2009 on: 9.30-12.30pm, Friday 17th July, 2009 1.00-4.00pm, Thursday 23rd July, 2009 Light refreshments will be available during the workshops and all participants will be issued with a Certificate of Participation. Please be aware that you must be a current participant (ie in 2009) and that course numbers are limited. If interest in the available places in the course is high a selection process will occur, so please complete your registration form fully giving your reasons for doing the Workshops. If it is necessary, the process may include an interview with program staff. This is a great opportunity for mentors to build on their existing skills and develop their confidence when working with new students from diverse backgrounds. If you are interested in applying for the course please register through the online form. Be quick to make sure you don't miss a place!
